Community Engagement

The Economic Council plays a vital role in the business and civic life of the Palm Beach community and beyond.

The Council is influential in the appointment of numerous business leaders and citizens to county and state boards and commissions.

The Economic Council is a leader in the education community. The Council’s William T. Dwyer Awards for Excellence in Education were established in 1985. Every year, these awards bring the community together to help increase awareness of the high quality of educators teaching in our community by recognizing outstanding teacher achievement.

In 2014, the Economic Council hosted an inaugeral benchmarking trip to the Raleigh-Durham, NC area, where nearly 50 Palm Beach County community and business leaders investigated how this region of our country has made education, entrepreneurship, and healthcare exemplary. In 2016, 53 EC PBC members and community leaders traveled to Denver to explore education, next gen tech and infrastructure. The participants on both trips noted the Economic Council is well positioned to help elevate Palm Beach County in these specific areas, and most importantly, help to build a stronger partnership with our education systems in Palm Beach County.

Another successful collaboration of the Economic Council is the founding of the Regional Business Alliance, in partnership with the Broward Workshop and the Greater Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce. The Alliance represents the interests of business throughout South Florida.

Other notable entities the Council helped to create or foster include:

  • Palm Beach County Tax Support Coalition (2016)
  • Palm Beach County Leadership Trip To Denver, Colorado (2016)
  • Palm Beach County Leadership Trip to Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, North Carolina (2014)
