2021 DWYER AWARDS NOMINEES ANNOUNCED

Palm Beach County Schools Nominate 425 Teachers for the 37th Annual William T. Dwyer Awards for Excellence in Education

WEST PALM BEACH (December 18, 2020) — The Economic Council of Palm Beach County Foundation is excited to announce more than 425 Teachers have been nominated for the 37th Annual William T. Dwyer Awards for Excellence in Education presented by The Hanley Foundation. The record breaking nomination announcement was made via Facebook @DwyerAwards on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 12:00 pm.

The Dwyer Awards, an annual program developed in 1984 and supported by the Economic Council of Palm Beach County , honors outstanding educators from public and private schools in Palm Beach County, increases awareness of the exemplary teaching in our community, supports educators with financial awards and encourages all residents to promote high standards for excellence in education. The Economic Council of Palm Beach County is comprised of business leaders who are committed to educational excellence as a key tenet for creating an environment for business to prosper.

“The Economic Council of Palm Beach County has had the unique opportunity to honor remarkable teachers in our community for the past 37 years,” said Michele Jacobs, President and CEO of Economic Council of Palm Beach County, Inc. “Now more than ever, our teachers need to be recognized and celebrated for their passion, perseverance and resilience.”

The seven categories for the 2021 Dwyer Awards include: Grow Up Great: Early Education, Elementary Education, Middle School Education, Senior High School Education, STEM Education, Student Advancement & Career Education, and Special Programs.

The nominees will embark on an application process whereby they will be asked to detail their teaching philosophy; describe their community and leadership involvement as well as their experience with transition to virtual learning in 2020 as well as provide recommendation from their principals. The 425 educator’s applications will be evaluated multiple times over a two-month process by more than 100 business leaders in Palm Beach County. The judges are then tasked with the difficult process of narrowing the applications down to the top 28 – four finalists per category who will be interviewed by a panel of business leaders where an ultimate winner will be decided for each category. Award recipients will be announced and honored along with all finalists, nominees and past recipients at the Dwyer Awards ceremony, presented by The Hanley Foundation, on Tuesday, May 25th at 6:00 pm at the Kravis Center for Performing Arts in West Palm Beach.
